Global Initiatives
Three hundred years ago when John Wesley was discussing the nature of his ministry he is quoted as saying that "the world is my parish."
Today United Methodists still believe that the entire of God's creation is our parish; that our mission efforts do not stop at the geographical borders of the United States. With that in mind, the 2008 General Conference adopted four areas of focus for our mission and ministry in the 21st century. These areas of focus are:
- Developing principled Christian leaders for the church and the world
- Creating new places for new people by starting new congregations and renewing existing ones
- Engaging in ministry with the poor
- Stamping out killer diseases by improving health globally
